We all know Colorado is a dream destination for all nature lovers and outdoor explorers. Rough but beautiful terrain, with its snow-capped mountains, gushing rivers, and spectacular valleys.

All the while, cultural opportunities can be found in places like Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. Colorado is often thought of as a ski destination, but the state offers a wide variety of exciting activities throughout the year. Throughout the spring, you may go on a hike in one of the state’s four national parks, and during the summer, you can cool yourself in one of the many gorgeous lakes.

Colorado also stands out due to its abundance of unique annual events, breweries, and ancient mining towns. Because there is such a wide variety of things to do in the state, it might be challenging to settle on a single pursuit or single destination.

Thats why Phil and I decided to map out the best RV parks in Colorado. So we don’t stick to just one place, we get to experience them all! We also made a list of the top State Parks in Colorado to visit that you can check out too!

If you’ve never been to our site before, Phil and I (Jenn) are on a mission to travel to every state and US national park while we live in our RV Full-time. Colorado is amongst the first group of states we will be visiting on our travel and we could not be more excited. The Garden of the Gods National Landmark is only a ten-minute drive from Pikes Peak RV Park, making it the ideal location for anyone looking to visit one of the most well-known regions of Colorado. Some campsites are located right on the bank of a lovely creek that runs through the park; however, if you prefer to be away from the sound of rushing water, you can ask to be placed on the park’s opposite side. The shared picnic area is available to all campers, and if you intend to bring a dog, there is a dog run right there.

Aspen Ridge RV Park & Camper Rentals is a warm park that frequently offers potlucks, bean bag competitions, and nighttime hot dog barbecues. It is well known for its friendly, community-oriented atmosphere.

Tiger Run Resort

Tiger Run Resort is a mountain resort that can be reached from Highway 70 between the towns of Frisco and Breckenridge. It is the ideal starting point for explorers and offers its guests a wide range of activities throughout the year. Fly-fishing is very popular in the Blue and Swan Rivers, which flow through the park. Of course, there are also a ton of paths for mountain bikers and hikers. You can ski or snowshoe in the winter.

The campsite also offers a wealth of amenities, including a pool, hot tubs, gym, tennis courts, and volleyball courts. Visitors can stay in either roomy RV sites or log cabins. They are all fully hooked up and padded. The grounds are plowed and the water pipes are heated in the winter. Simply said, Tiger Run Resort is a fantastic location for glampers and those who appreciate the great outdoors.

Elk Creek Campground & RV Park

Elk Creek Campground & RV Park is a charming campground frequented by moose and other wild animals. It has contemporary restrooms, a kid’s playground, and a comfortable rec room with Wi-Fi and a big screen TV. While some of the sites only have water and electricity, some have complete hookups, there is a honey wagon service available for a nominal price if you land up at a site without a sewage hookup. Although dogs are not allowed on the hiking trails at Rocky Mountain National Park, pets are welcome.

Riverview RV Park

The Riverview RV Park is a year-round campsite for families located just outside of Loveland amid the picturesque countryside. There are numerous gorgeous cottonwood trees on the site, and many of the stumps from dead trees have been carved with images of fairies, wizards, and other mythical creatures. 

Depending on where in the park you wish to stay, both pull-through and back-in choices are available at each of the campsites, all of which offer picnic tables and fire rings. For the little ones, there is a playground, and visitors of all ages can enjoy fishing in the park’s creek and playing horseshoes.

Red Mountain RV Park

Although the Red Mountain RV Park may appear to be your typical RV campsite, its welcoming personnel and exceptional customer service set it apart. The park enthusiastically welcomes large groups with adequate notice and offers full hookups at each of the roomy pull-through campsites. 

Along with a laundry area, an RV dump station, and a kids’ playground, the campground offers free Wi-Fi and hot showers to all campers. Additionally, if you’re looking for something a little different, the park also has rented cabins available a mile away from the RV park. Tents are also permitted here.

Grape Creek RV Park

The Grape Creek RV Park, a tranquil, family friendly campground with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, is located at the foot of the Sangre De Cristo mountains. Shady Grove Campground

The Shady Grove Campground in eastern Colorado is a small yet warm RV park with only 23 sites available. It’s ideal for a tranquil getaway. Large RVs can fit on all sites, which all have full hookups and a choice of 30 amp or 50 amp electrical. Modern facilities with hot showers, free Wi-Fi, and a laundry facility are available in the park. If you run out of food, Seibert, a nearby village, has a grocery shop. Weekly and monthly stays are discounted, and the park charges an extra cost for a dump service.

There is a large variety of site types available, including budget-friendly and luxurious pull-through sites, and all prices include Wi-Fi and TV service. 

For stays of one week or one month, discounts are provided. There is a dump station that may be utilized for a cost, and the facilities and wash room are available around-the-clock. Pets are allowed, but you must let the staff know in advance if you intend to bring more than one.

Elk Meadow Lodge and RV Resort

Lake John Resort

On public land, you can go hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, using ATV and UTV routes, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and visiting the North Sand Hills Recreation Area. The best fishing in Northern Colorado, pull-through RV sites with 30 or 50 amp connections, water, electricity, trash pickup, and more. Hunting, hiking, mountain biking, boating, and renting ice huts are all available in North Park 500 yards from the lake.

Buffalo Springs Campground

There are plenty of lovely outdoor activities available at this RV site in the San Isabel National Forest, but there is no television or internet access. A large, verdant basin can be found in the shadow of tall mountains in this region of the San Isabel Range. Adventuresome guests can climb, mountain cycle, or even go hiking and fishing along rolling hillsides at elevations of nine to ten thousand feet.

The famous Molly Brown, who and her husband JJ survived the Titanic sinking, and Horace and Baby Doe Tabor, whose renowned Tabor Opera House hosts daily performances, both reside in the nearby mining town of Leadville. Visitors can also hang out at South Park, where they won’t run across any of the TV characters but can stroll through a recreated 1800s village with live music, gunfights, and living history events.

Pion Flats Campground is located in the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve in southern Colorado. The park offers a plethora of activities, such as exploring the stunning dunes and swimming in Medano Creek at the base of the dunes. Due to its proximity to the dunes, this campground is among the best in Colorado. Along with miles of hiking paths, there are family-friendly ranger-led activities available. On-site amenities include picnic tables, restrooms, and a clean dump.

La Junta KOA Journey

Bent’s Fort, where costumed interpreters will transport visitors back in time to the period when it was the final outpost of civilization before the frontier, is only a short distance from the La Junta KOA Journey. They can see the former Mexican border when they look over the river. 

The largest dinosaur trackway in the country is located at Picketwire Canyon, 30 minutes’ drive south of the resort. The RV park is close to dining options, stores, and a fantastic BBQ joint. Despite having a “little town” atmosphere and having a population of just over 7,000, La Junta contains museums and displays of Native American artifacts.

Great Sand Dunes Oasis

On the eastern side of the San Luis Valley, there is a distinctive park called the Great Sand Dunes Oasis. Sandboarding and sand sledding are two distinctive attractions that are possible in this park because of the breathtaking view of the sand dunes and the Valley. 

With a gift shop, laundry facilities, and a café that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this park truly is an oasis. You can hire a sandboard or sand sled in the summer, spend the day getting messy, and then wash off in the clean showers at the end of the day. One of the nicest spots to go on an RV vacation in Colorado is the Great Sand Dunes Oasis.

Alpen Rose RV Park

The all-year-round Alpen Rose RV Park is located in southwest Colorado. It includes campsites with WiFi and full hookups. A pool, restrooms, showers, a laundry facility, propane, and year-round dry storage are also available at the RV park. For those who like to take day outings to explore the stunning area, Alpen Rose offers a pet-walking service. Additionally, there is a self-serve dog wash and a pet playground. Only two miles separate the RV park from Durango’s historic downtown. 

Gunnison KOA Journey

Due to the amount of water, the sites at this unusual campground are grassy. After a day of exploration, it is cool to enjoy relaxing outside in the area’s summertime average temperature of 80 degrees. Fishing and boating are definitely options since the park is close to Colorado’s largest body of water, Blue Mesa Reservoir. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison and the Gunnison Valley Observatory are located in Gunnison.

The bird’s eye view of the area can be obtained from the ski lift at Crested Butte or by visiting one of that city’s art galleries and cultural attractions.  Making the Gunnison KOA as a base  for several trails to explore. The RV park’s on-site petting zoo and stocked trout pond, where kids may catch and keep fish for a modest fee, are for sure satisfying.

Monument Lake Resort

Monument Lake, an adobe-style resort built in 1937, is nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Southern Colorado also near Monument Lake. Every type of camping you can imagine is available at the 368-acre resort, which also offers extras like a pontoon boat, kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes for hire. A bar and restaurant, marina, convenience shop, and more are all located on the grounds of this Colorado RV park. Picnic tables, fire pits, and clean facilities and showers are all available to campers.

There used to be more trees in Glacier Basin Campground, but the sickness caused by the pine beetle required their removal. After the woods were cut out, a stunning view of the jagged mountains of the Continental Divide became possible. 

Start your day off well with a mile stroll to Sprague Lake, and don’t forget to catch the sunrise over the Front Range Mountains. There are hygienic dumps, firewood for sale, and spotless facilities in this RV park in Colorado. Each site also has barbecue grates, fire rings, and picnic tables. Glacier Basin is traversed by the shuttle service for Rocky Mountain National Park.

Golden Eagle Campground

The Golden Eagle Campground is a lovely ranch on the south side of Colorado Springs that has been family-owned since 1961. You have a decent selection with more than 200 RV and trailer campsites, whether you want a pull-through site with full connections or a little smaller site with only electric and water. This RV campground has been meticulously designed to give you the best of both worlds, boasting excellent modern amenities, such as free wifi, in a stunning mountain location.

During your stay, you will have access to two facilities with showers, a gift shop and a convenience store on-site, as well as two covered pavilions, which are excellent for organizing a group gathering or family barbecue. The family-friendly campground features a playground and trout-stocked fishing ponds. Pulling up a camp chair next to the shore is a terrific way to spend the afternoon even if you aren’t fishing.

The breathtaking views at Mueller State Park in Colorado, an hour to the west of Colorado Springs, are unrivaled. There are various loops, some of which require a hike and some of which have pull-through parking. Since many of the RV spots are pull-offs along the road, your vehicle is in between you and the traffic. The campground is dotted with water stations, coin-operated laundry rooms, and clean restrooms. There is also a dump station, an amphitheater, a visitor center, and other amenities.

Chatfield State Park

Chatfield State Park is a well-liked hot air balloon launching site all year round, offering over 40 full hookups and numerous partial hookups. This state park is located on the Chatfield Reservoir and has 30 and 50 amp hookups, water and sewer hookups, and sanitary dumps. The majority of the sites are open and grassy. In addition to drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and laundry facilities, campgrounds offer picnic tables, fire rings, grills, tent pads, and access to drinking water. There are miles of multipurpose trails in this state park as well.

Crystal Kangaroo Campground

If you’re camping in Colorado’s mountains, you must have a location with a view. That works in Crystal Kangaroo Campground’s favor. You’ll actually discover solitude and peace. RVs up to 45 feet in length can fit in these 32 sites, several of which have electricity hookups. Watch the sunrise each morning over Garden of the Gods’ red rocks by looking out your window.

Lake Pueblo State Park

There are 401 campsites total, including 264 RV campsites, dispersed across three distinct zones of this very well-liked, safety-patrolled park. A paved parking area, a covered picnic table, and a fire pit are available to you. There are flush toilets, coin-operated showers, a trash station, playgrounds, and laundry facilities for sites with 30-amp electricity hookups. From October 1 to April 1, there are a few winter camping sites available.

There are more recreational opportunities along Lake Pueblo’s 60 miles of shoreline than you can likely accommodate in a single visit. On the lake, boating, fishing, jet skiing, windsurfing, and other activities are available, and the park’s extensive trail system is ideal for hikers and mountain bikers. Hills covered with wildflowers, 200-year-old juniper trees, owls, beavers, and snapping turtles are just a few examples of the abundant flora and animals. Children adore the Pueblo Zoo, and San Isabel Lake is about a 30-minute drive away.

You’ll adore Steamboat Springs, but lodging costs are high. The easiest way to explore a beautiful mountain village without spending a lot of money is to travel here in your RV. Steamboat should be crossed off your list because it is growing in popularity. Located in the state’s northwest, Steamboat Springs is about a three-hour drive from Denver. The travel from the Wyoming border is roughly two hours.

The Yampa River, which flows nearby and is nearby throughout the year due to mountain snowfall, is cold and crisp. You can discover everything not too far from the city. The free bus system in Steamboat makes it simple to get to all the fun places. If you want to make the best memories, consider using the Gondola at the ski resort. Services including full hookups, WiFi, cable TV, swimming pool, river view, mini golf, laundry, fishing and a pavilion are available.

Zapata Falls Campground

This Colorado campground has pull-through sites without hookups and is 500 yards from the Zapata Falls trailhead. Both in the winter and the summer, the Zapata Falls Campground gets very crowded; in the winter, the waterfall is frozen, and in the summer, you may have to wade through a river. Every campground comes with a picnic table, a fire ring, and a food locker that is bear-proof. The majority of campsites have vault toilets but no showers.

Moraine Park Campground

The Moraine Park Campground, which is close to the Beaver Meadow entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park, is the best place to explore the mountains’ steep tors and flower-filled meadows. The numerous loops in this Colorado RV park provide water spigots and facilities, but there are no RV hookups available. A great shuttle service is available as well for getting about the park. Each campsite features a picnic table, a fire ring, a food locker, and drinking water.

Healing Waters Resort & Spa

Southwest Colorado, close to the New Mexico border, is the location of Healing Waters Resort & Spa. There are only 4 RV sites in this tiny campground, but the location in the heart of Pagosa Springs more than makes up for it. 

This is more of a hot spring with full hookup RV parking than an RV park. You will see many locals using these hot springs when you visit. While some of the other upscale resorts purge the hot spring water or mix in city water, we’ve heard that Healing Waters uses pure hot spring water.
