Custer State Park, among the best South Dakota state parks and among the largest in the country, offers visitors a variety of camping options. Sylvan Lake Campground in the northern part of the park is one of the most sought-after places to camp in Custer. Camping is available close to Sylvan Lake, the Custer State Park’s “Crown Jewel”
The campground is located close to the lake and Sylvan Lake Lodge, which has a cafeteria, gift shop, and restaurant. There are hot showers and flush toilets at the campground. The 39 campsites are only big enough for tents or RVs no longer than 27 feet. It is possible to make a reservation a whole year in advance, and the campground is open from the middle of May until the end of September.

Hikers at Palisades State Park can experience a lot of the best rock climbing within the state on the trails that run along creeks and reveal the park’s rocky landscape. Palisades is home to 37 different campsites, all of which are suitable for camping in a tent or RV.
You can use the restrooms and the water at any of the six cabins or any of the campsites. Location of the campground near the state park’s numerous natural attractions is the campground’s main selling point. Visitors to the park can set up camp just a few yards from the creek and spend the day hiking and swimming in its clear waters.

Whispering Pines Campground is a small, family-friendly campground convenient to many top Black Hills attractions. Sites have grassy areas, gravel pads, and picnic tables with 30/50 amp full hookups.
There are also partial hookup spots with water/electricity only and a nearby dump station. There is a heated saltwater pool, free Wi-Fi, and clean, modern restrooms. Also have spacious RV sites and cozy cabins that can accommodate anywhere from four to eight people. Whispering Pines also provides a tent camping area.

Spearfish City Campground provides easy access to the city park and Spearfish Creek, both of which are within easy reach of downtown Spearfish. Among the finest trout fishing within the state can be found in this urban waterway.
There are over 100 primitive campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis in addition to the 61 reserved electric sites at this campground. There are common areas with restrooms and showers for overnight guests, as well as easy access to the city and the great outdoors.

Big Sioux Campground has 50 campsites, most of which are suitable for RVs thanks to 50 amp service, while others have non-electric and tent-only. Black Hills National Forest also has public campgrounds like Pactola Reservoir Campground that can be reserved in advance. Located in a pine forest on the south side of the reservoir, this campground is conveniently close to Rapid City. You can pitch a tent or park an RV there.
Camping amenities at this location include both table and fire pit areas, as well as flush toilets and potable water. Unfortunately, there are no power sources available. From the campground, you can walk to the beach, or use the nearby boat ramps to reach the full-service marina. The second-longest cave in the world, Jewel Cave, is located in this area.
