Half Moon Pond State Park in central Vermont has a campsite that’s peaceful and surrounded by trees that is ideal if you’re hoping to pitch your tent in the wilderness or at the water’s edge. Half Moon Campground is among two public campgrounds located within Bomoseen State Park.

They feature flush toilets, cold and hot water, coin-operated showers, and an RV dump station for their guests. Your furry friends are welcome at the park with you. Campground entertainment options include making and playing games with natural crafts and listening to stories around the campfire. Exciting activities for visitors of all ages include amphibian explorations and night hikes.

Kettle Pond State Park is a great place to boondock because it is secluded from other visitors. You can enjoy moss-covered forests, small lakes and ponds, and rocky, tree-lined hillsides that appear to have been untouched.

In addition to the small pond, there are a number of hiking trails in the area, with many visitors making the ascent to Owl’s Head Overlook to take in the breathtaking scenery. There are 26 lean-tos scattered around the pond, but only a few can be reached by car, so plan accordingly. The only facilities are vault toilets, but close to New Discovery State Park that has running water, showers, and a dump station.

Quechee State Park

The Quechee Gorge rightfully serves as the park’s primary point of interest. Visitors can look down 165 feet to see the Ottauquechee River, which was shaped by glacial activity around 13,000 years ago. The park has 45 wooded tent/RV sites and 7 lean-tos, in addition to the bizarre geology. Trees provide ample privacy, and the sites are spacious enough for a campfire and a family meal. While there aren’t any power or water hookups, there is a dump station and showers.

Elmore State Park

The tiny community of Elmore is dominated by the namesake Lake Elmore and the mountain of the same name, which rises almost directly from its shores. Local families flock to the park’s small sandy beach on hot summer days, and groups of hikers ascend the mountain to fire tower in the fall for a panoramic view of the landscape. The north side of the lake is home to 45 RV/tent sites in a wooded loop. The restrooms have hot showers, but there is no place to plug in your utilities, and neither is there a place to dump your waste.
