the best rv decorating ideas anyone can do

Who doesn’t love to stare at aesthetically pleasing things? Whether its sipping coffee in a neatly-organized home, traveling in a beautifully designed rv or making food on the campfire while watching the vibrant colors of the sunset come out.

That’s the reason we decorate. To give our eyes something to enjoy and relax our minds.

Phil and I are moving into our Airstream soon to explore all of the US national parks, and I could not feel more exhilarated and ready to go!

While I wait, I thought it would be a fantastic idea so start brainstorming everything and anything related to improving our RV experience. Of course finding the best RV decorating ideas that anyone could do definitely made the top of the list.

We are going to be living in this rig full-time after all, and I want to feel at home.

Are you also looking for ideas on how to decorate your RV with style? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

RVing is such a thrilling thing to do, and it can be a lot of fun if you have a beautifully decorated rig.

So let’s get to it! Check out these tips and tricks on how to decorate your RV and make it feel like a home away from home!

Start With An Inspiring Theme

think of an inspiring theme

While checking out the designs other full-time RVers use, I’ve noticed most of the RV’s I’ve liked the most have had a theme. Whether it was a color scheme, an ideal, or even from a tv show inspiration, the themes really tied the whole rig together.

A theme gives the RV a consistent look and a good set of colors to work with. Take a look at this simple theme above.

If you are like me and love minimalistic styles, then this would be a great place to start.

The basic black and white base colors are stylish and sophisticated, and allow you to accent with almost anything.

We all know the struggle of trying to park our rig at an RV park, and I have a feeling this is the type of design that will undoubtedly help you relax your mind after you spend some intense moments trying to park.

Mix and Match Your Colors

mix and match colors

Once you’ve picked your base colors, you should think of a contrast color that will really bring the space to life. We all know RV manufacturers typically use fairly simple earthy tones inside, and that splash of color can indeed brighten up your interior.

If you look at the inspiration above, they combined a pink and green pastels with white for a modern and natural combination. The dark wood and light wood really help accentuate those colors too and make them pop.

You can use this style in your kitchen or throughout the entire interior of your RV.

Another thing I also loved, is they added house plants that matched their hand towel. Such a nice touch for a home-y feel.

or Don’t! Try One-Color Themes

try a one color theme

Now to go in the complete opposite direction of mix and matching colors which most RV owners enjoy, a unique design for your RV could be choosing only one color and experimenting with its various shades ranging from light to dark.

I know, I know. It’s daring. it’s brilliant!

If you look at the inspiration above, the designs are simple and pleasing to the eye. What I love about this is it will give your RV a lovely theme that can pass the test of time.

Hang Stylish Wallpaper

consider purchasing stylish wallpapers

Today, there are so many fun wall covering designs, also called wallpaper stickers, that can completely change the look and feel of your RV.

In fact, you can find hundreds of options to try out with one quick google search. I spent way too long browsing, and found this dark wood one that I absolutely fell in love with.

Depending on your personal style and theme, the possibilities are limitless!

You can use any color you want in a variety of patterns such as waves, zigzags, flowers, mandalas, and others which can help with creating an artistic and entertaining design for your RV.

Once you have a nice wallpaper as a backdrop in your RV, it will be so easy to redecorate your space with different accents as the months go by.

Update the Cabinets and Knobs

Cabinets not only add space for storage, but they can also add the necessary details to your RV’s overall design. Such as these cabinets on top of the living room and kitchen, which look ideal for any theme you want to try. They match the wallpaper that has bricks to add to the theme, making it a cozy place for you and your loved ones to enjoy.

I love how they painted the top cabinets white which makes the RV feel more open and a little less cramped, and then painted the bottom cabinets a dark blue. The dark blue on bottom create a home-y feel that is also a great contrast to the white and is a great base color for many different accent colors.

Paint it with your Favorite Color

paint it with your favorite color

A fresh coat of paint on an RV can make a big difference, especially if it’s the color you love the most though.

With a little paint, you can make that old, outmoded decor look new again. Just remember to always start with a primer!

If you’re like me and you catch yourself questions, is it really worth painting though… just know it is! Yes it may take a day to finish the paint, but you will have years to enjoy your favorite color.

If you like the color green, you might also like this design in dark green and white. Its resemblance is ideal for creating a cozy atmosphere in any park setting.

Design with Portraits and Images using Mixtiles

design with portraits and images using mixtiles

Mixtiles or frames are a way to have your favorite images and portraits professionally mounted on a lightweight foam backer and ready to hang easily.

All you need to do is pick any of your favorite photos or quotes and hang them beside your bed (or really anywhere in the rv).

I already have a couple of quotes, I can wait to get printed and hung up in my RV. I’m getting my husbands favorite quote done too by Ralph Waldo Emerson. “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”

Just a nice reminder that things are going to go wrong in an RV, but we choose to be the people that overcome those problems to enjoy this nomadic lifestyle.

Whats great about the mixtiles is they are extremely lightweight and include a peel and stick strip for easy mounting on RV walls. There are multiple options available too, depending on your preferred theme.

You can either make it look like a frame with a border or just let the images cover the entire mixtile.

Hang your Decorations Using Wire Wall Grids

hang your decorations using wire wall grids

I’ve noticed so many RVers using wire wall grids to be both a function and decorative feature in their RV. This metallic display made up of small grids look great on almost any wall and is especially helpful for the crafters among us or those working on the road and want a place to hold their supplies.

But of course, you can also store valuables such as sunglasses, keys, and other items on it. This simply means that it will not just add beauty to your decor but will also assist you in organizing small items that you use on a daily basis.

Try Adding Hanging Decor

If you want to make your RV look lively and fun, you should consider adding decor that hangs from your ceiling, walls, or cabinets. I love hanging plants, macramé, and other decor because it gives a simplistic feel to the RV without adding clutter to your countertops and floors.

Its also great that children and pets can’t break or ruin anything on the ceiling too.

What I love about this design pictured above is it great depth to your design which totally brings a nice vibe.

Add Book Shelves

If you’re like Phil and I, and enjoy reading you should definitely consider adding bookshelves to your RV. What I like about having a book shelf is number 1, it’s practical. We will definitely be reading those books and they will provide hours or free lounging activity. Number 2, its simple decor that always looks good and adds to the space.

Not only will the bookshelf help you organize your books and identify which ones have already been read, but it could be a point of conversation when you have guests over in your RV.

You could also use the bookshelf to keep some notebooks or planners organized as well. To keep your style simple and minimalistic, try using a white shelf like the one in the photo.

Setup a Minimalistic Office Space

make a lovely office desk

Phil and I are planning to work full-time while we travel full-time in our Airstream and we are beyond excited, but the toughest part was figuring out how we were going to work in an RV.

Traveling to different RV parks is very relaxing, but if you can’t work because there isn’t enough “office” space then you won’t be able to afford the lifestyle very long. And since we have to work in our RV, we might as well make it chic and stylish. You know, a place I want to sit down and work because it is simply calling my name.

A minimalistic and modern office desk beside the RV window is ideal for creating a relaxing work experience. I believe the right set up can increase your motivation to work and thats why this is one of my favorite ideas to share! It will keep us on the road longer, thats for sure.

Hang Some Chandeliers

Chandeliers are another fantastic options for adding depth and creativity to your decor. I know it can be dangerous driving your home around, which is why I love this idea of using a macrame chandelier! It’s not glass, so there is no possibility of it shattering, and as you can tell it totally ties the theme of this RV together.

I’ve also seen some really cute lights hanging in the bathroom of some RVs that i know I will have to get.

Hang Cute Towels in the Bathroom

rv towels the chambers rv image (1)

Adding decorative bathroom towels to your rv bathroom can truly help maintain its aesthetic appeal. I would definitely consider putting some cute towels with designs on your bathroom walls and even finding a nice way to properly organize them if they are left out in the open. This is also a good idea if you have a new pile of bathroom towels and someone wants to take a shower in your RV. You can use only one color or experiment with several colors. What I love most about this idea is the practicality of it. Most RV bathrooms are so small and you really don’t want to take up space with decor that provides no value. So having a nice towel is the perfect touch.

Build In a Headboard

There are numerous RV bedroom interior decoration ideas swirling around the internet and in your head! For example, replacing your headboard can completely transform your RV bedroom. To totally alter the feel or theme of your room, use wallpaper, padded foam, PVC leather, fabric, or even a tapestry behind your bed. Then complete it with a bed set and some pillows and wallah! Transformed space.

A headboard can make a small space feel larger and have a significant impact on how the room feels and looks. You can explore more ideas by trying different colors, aside from a simple white and grey combination.

Add Ambiance with Candles and Warm Fairy Lights

use some candles and warm fairy lights

The right lighting can make or break your RV’s bedroom and living area. Try some of these innovative lighting ideas for your RV, such as fairy lights and candles, which will undoubtedly add an enjoyable feel.

This will be ideal for the upcoming holiday season, and when they are lit at night, they create a lovely homey atmosphere. You can also use flameless lights and set a timer for the length of time you want the candles to be activated. This will ensure that you never forget to switch them off. With these lights, your RV will look very festive and lovely.

Light Up Your RV with Color Changing LEDs

fill your rv with color changing ledlights

LED lights are perfect during the night for your indoor and outdoor lights. This will let you go of the boring lights with color changing led light which can help you have a calm night.  There are so many to choose from that you can often find the perfect one.

Most RVs now have LED lighting that operates on a 12v system. Keep in mind to match the voltage with the lighting system.

Create Individualized Spaces For Your Kids

separate rooms for boys and girls

The one thing I don’t love about living in an RV is that my 8-year-old daughter doesn’t have her own If you are a mother of two children, preferably one girl and one boy, you should consider making a small space for their own rooms on your RV. Leave your daughter’s room in lovely baby pink and give it a floral makeover, as shown in the photo. On the other hand, you could use a different color that your son likes, such as blue, and keep it simple, or you could use sticker walls with his favorite superhero characters. Make use of the same color for their beds.

Spruce up a Baby Room

design your fun baby room

Having a baby could be a very inspiring way to recreate your RV’s style. Try making a simple nursery room for your child and designing it in simple styles so it won’t look overly decorated. You can also decorate your baby’s crib with flowers or her name. You can choose from a variety of light or pastel colors that would be ideal for the theme of your baby’s nursery room.

Install Upgraded Furniture and Fixtures

include new furnitures and fixtures

RV furniture is available in a variety of styles. You can change the look of your RV completely by getting new furniture or even trying to change the color of the couch by recovering it. Take a look at this interior design with new furniture. The table has a wooded style sticker, the couch has the same theme color as the RV, and there is a beautiful vase with lovely blooming flowers. You should keep in mind that sometimes trying to replace RV furniture with the usual furniture can have a significant impact on making your RV look like a home.

Decorate with Musical Instruments

show off your instruments like guitar or violin

If you are the type of person who enjoys music or has a collection of instruments, why not display these amazing instruments, such as the guitar displayed beside the couch in the photo? This will make your RV appear more lively and dazzling, especially if it has a wooden theme. This can also be a way for you to make time for your hobby while traveling with your family in your RV.

Add Style with Throw Pillows, Rugs and Blankets

make a style with lovely pillows rugs and blackets

In decorating, the details are everything. You can start with a fairly neutral palette for your walls, furniture, and so on, and then dress up your pillows with pillowcases, blankets, and rugs, especially in your bedroom. These can all be easily changed to correspond with the upcoming  seasons and holidays.

If you want to try this design, consider the decoration in the photo. They have white walls, earthy brown pillow cases, an orange and white blanket, and a lovely succulent beside the bed. The look is autumnal and results in a space that looks fantastic.

Hang Curtains Around the Windows

add curtains for the windows

Finding a great fabric and making a new creative window style can really brighten up your room. See how the curtains make a big  change in an otherwise boring window. You can hang curtains in any direction you want. If you can sew, this is a great do-it-yourself project. Make it the same color as your RV theme to make it look more appealing. You should also try to place you your dining table beside the window. This would be perfect for a good breakfast and romantic dinner.

Blue Table Runners for the Tables

A nice table runner could really make your decor pop. Add a splash of color or use one theme color. Take a look at the blue runner in the photo. It’s whimsical and really tends to make the table stand out. It brings life to the interior design of your RV. So, if you want to make your table stand out, use a vibrant color for your table runners and pillows in the same color as the chairs.

Organize A Play Space For Your Kids

add play space for your kids bedroom

Maybe you’ve considered making a playroom in your child’s bedroom; well, you can try it by making the creative bedframe that is same as what is shown in the photo. The bed will be on top, with a space below for your child to play. You can enhance the look by adding rugs and a coffee table. You can also include any toys that your child would enjoy playing with while traveling, such as a small Barbie house or a vanity mirror.

Try Hanging Wall Art Where You Can

try some hanging wall arts

Hanging wall arts can also add a lot of character to the interior of your RV. Wall hangings can be found to complement your design, whether it is country craft or a modern style. In fact, t hey could also add a nice pop of color if the theme of your RV are looking a little dull.

Many RVers actually use decals on their RV doors, and some have hanging frames on their kitchen walls, as shown in the photo. You can also try hanging some of your utensils that are not easily broken if you want to keep your things organized. This is a fun RV project to try.

Decorate For The Season

decorate depending on the season

It’s a good idea to arrange your interiors so that you can change it up as seasons or holidays change. Look for a strong, lovely theme that allows you to quickly switch things up with pillowcases, blankets, wall art, and so on.

Check out this lovely Christmas RV theme. It simply screams bright and fun Christmas day. Bright lights are all around the room, as are the candles, as do whimsical curtains, blankets, and throw pillows. This is a good example of the best style to try for your next RV interior.

Add Elegant Floor Mats

add elegant floor mats

Large floor pillows are a simple way to add comfort to your RV while also driving a theme. However, if you want to try something different than a floor pillow, use floor mats. They are simple to keep and retrieve when needed. It allows you to sit on the floor and have a comfortable floor while sitting on the couch. This is one method for having a good style for your RV’s interior, similar to what is shown in the photo. Make sure to align the colors with your theme to make it look really good.

Use Kitchen Organizers for Every Utensils

use kitchen organizers for every utensils

Your RV’s kitchen space is very important and has a large impact on the design of your RV, which is why you must keep it neat and organized. Aside from the cabinet for storage, try using kitchen organizers for all utensils. This will make your kitchen a lovely and cozy space that is visually appealing. Clearly, these utensil organizers can help you have a good time cooking without worrying about losing things or forgetting where to put them.

Show Off Your Plant Collection

show off your collections or souvenirs

If you’ve been traveling to different places for a long time, you’ve probably tried purchasing items from different places, so why not use them for your interior design? You can display your succulent collection, which will give you an earthly vibe, as shown in the photo, or simply display various items, such as hanging wall art and furniture purchased elsewhere. This will make your RV look absolutely stunning!

Stick Creative Decals on your RV

Stick fun decals on your RV doors if you want to be inspired and inspire others. Every time you’re ready to head into your RV, you will see a nice little reminder of why you do what you do. Like this one “making memories one campsite at a time”. So cute! This is sure to put a smile on your face as you travel, even when something may be going wrong. It will just be another reminder, that it all becomes a memory. So enjoy it while you can!

Repaint Kitchen Cabinets to Fit Your Theme

repaint cabinets of your kitchen same as your theme

Painting a portion or all of the cabinets in your kitchen can have a major impact on the overall look of your kitchen. Let’s face it, RV manufacturers don’t always put the most amazing and lovely finishes on the kitchen cabinets and countertops, so you can just do it yourself, and do it just like what is shown in the photo. A cool tone of light blue would be ideal for making a statement. although you can still choose to use your own preferred color. Additionally, this will create a very relaxing atmosphere in your RV, especially at night.

Purchase Magnetic Tools for the Kitchen

purchase magnetic tools for the kitchen

Magnetic cooking tools are not only useful, but they can also be used to decorate your kitchen walls. This kitchen in the photo employs a number of magnetic items, all of which aid in the organization of a tidy kitchen. If you decide to buy a refrigerator, you can simply stick your magnetic tools on it.

For the life of me I can’t find it now, but I once saw a magnetic holder for a kettle in someones RV. It was so awesome! I make matcha every morning so having the kettle out everyday is pretty much standard, but it would be great if I could get it on the wall as opposed to taking up counter space.

Put Up Chalkboard Wallpaper

stick chalkboard and draw on it

A chalkboard can be used in a stylish way and can be sticked  on the fridge, cabinets, or even walls, as shown in the photo, to provide a fun and stylish way to be creative. The drawings can be changed as the seasons change. This is the time to unleash your inner artist!

Add Flip-Up Countertops

add a flip up countertops

Laminated countertops in older RVs can be quite boring. Complete replacements, on the other hand, can be costly but will give you a distinct experience. Try a flip-up countertop for as an alternative to your boring countertop that allows you to store other materials in your kitchen, such as cutting boards. This is a clever idea because you can simply remove the extra countertop when not in use. This is a fantastic way to save space while creating a stylish design that everyone will envy.

Use Outdoor Mat and Rugs

This will be ideal for giving your guests a cozy place to rest while gazing out into the distance. As you install all of these bright lights, you will feel as if you are in a whimsical place.

Name Your Rig and Stick it on your Front Door

place your name on your outdoor doors

If you enjoy strolling around the campground and admiring all of the RV signs that people personalized for their doors outside, you might have thought that they are adorable and provide another opportunity to learn the name of the person who lives in the camper. This is why you should try doing the same with your RV to create a distinct look with your own identity. You can also add some details to your RV doors by simply writing “Welcome to our Camper.”

Mix and Match with Outdoor Furniture

use oudoor furnitures

Outdoor furniture such as sofas, coffee tables, and chairs are a great way to add ambience and personality to your outdoor space. There are so many different designs to choose from. As a result, you must select one that matches your personal style. This could also provide you with a place to relax and eat your breakfast, as well as a place to work while enjoying the breeze.

Design your Pet’s Space

design your pets space

You’re probably one of those people who enjoys taking their pets on vacations and traveling with them. If this is the case, you should think about giving them their own space where they can relax and sleep at any time of day. You can simply replicate the design shown in the photo by using a divider for both of your pets if you have two, or simply placing their beds inside the cage while leaving it open. Make sure that their space is not too small or too large for them.

Install Blindcovers

install blindcovers

Sunny days, especially during the summer, can have very bright sunlight, especially at noon. If you don’t want as much light inside your RV, try installing blind covers that match your interior design. This would look elegant and would even help you avoid direct sunlight.
